Vintage collecting cards, acrylic paint & painted wood on canvas
103 x 103cm
SOLD
A collection of vintage Canadian collecting cards and painted wood arranged on a painted canvas. The work is mounted behind conservation glass within a whitewashed, wooden frame.
Featuring hand drawn images of different bird species, these 160 cards were produced by the Brooke Bond Tea Company in the 1960’s and have been gathered from a variety of sources. Brought together and laid out in a grid style pattern, the birds reside on a pastel blue background reminiscent of the sky. Hinting towards the notion of a perch, the painted wooden pieces provide a three-dimensional component.
Inspiration for the piece comes from a recent trip to the massive Birds of Eden free flight sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.
